Government Three Year Plan Targets Increase In Output of Agro-Pastoral Products

E-mail Print PDF

Government has published a three year plan aiming at increasing the output of more than 20 products by 2015.

Available since January 2013 and designed by the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), the plan envisages for example an increase from 182,000 tons of paddy rice in 2012 to 256,200 tons by 2015.

Still in the rice sector, authorities want to increase white rice harvest from 139,200 tons to 205,000 in three years from now. Likewise the plan projects an increase in chicken production to 91,500 tons in 2015 up from 61,000 in 2010.

To achieve these objectives, government will increase, according to the plan from a copy we obtained from MINEPAT, its support to SMEs, SMIs, cooperatives and Common Initiative Groups five-folds in the next three years.

The plan is considered an extract from the country’s 10 year Growth and Employment strategy Paper expected to catapult Cameroon to an emerging economy by 2035.
